VC Pop Warner cheer team takes second at Jamz Nationals

The Valley Center Pop Warner Midget Cheerleading team traveled to Jamz Nationals this weekend and brought home a second place trophy.
The team competed in two different divisions, Show Cheer, which is traditional cheerleading and dance, and Character Dance, which is a dance division that must incorporate many styles of dance as well as tell a story.
The team took second plac in the Character Dance, which was based on the popular James Cameron movie Avatar.
The team had a very successful season, and is now off for a break. There is a cheerleading team for all ages beginning at five years old up to 15. The competitive teams start at around ten years old. It is a great way to make new friends, get in shape and develop dance, stunt, and tumbling skills for the future VC High School Dance and Cheerleading.
The VCPW Midget Cheerleading team consists of Brittani Bennett, Gabi Cloutier, Christine Diepstraten, Alexis Gomez, Kaelin Head, Sabriena Lopez, Angelina Luna, Camryn Meyers, Janelly Miranda, Faith Mitchell, Maritza Morales, Natalia Garcia, Marissa Neumann, Brittany Pfizenmaier, Tessa Redmond, Victoria Rodriguez, Maya Taylor, Breanna Todd, Aubrey Wolf. Coaching Staff: Jeanna Slattery, Monika Diepstraten, Janet Nelson, Letreasa Harris, Shelby Thorpe and Sarah Mitchell.

Mighty Mites
On Saturday, the Mighty Jaguars traveled to Wildomar to take on the Tigers, and after falling behind early, nearly came back in a 24–19 loss.
The Jags were trailing 24–13 late in the fourth quarter when K.J. Mazzetti hooked up with Oliver Delano for a 50-yard touchdown reception to make the score 24–19 with 29 seconds remaining.
The ensuing onside kick was recovered by Oliver Delano of the Jags. The Jags reached the 20-yard line but finally ran out of time and fell to the Tigers 24–19.
Other offensive standouts were Jake Meyers, who had a 45-yard touchdown run; Sid Weddington with a 40-yard reception; Gianni Pinamonti, who made three receptions and a 30-yard punt return; and great blocking by Peyton Rutherford and the rest of the Jags’ offensive line.
Defensively, Eddie Imgrund was all over the field making tackles, as were Rutherford, Sebastin Roman, Hayden Patstone, and Jack Shaffer.

Junior Midgets
Valley Center's Junior Midget Jaguars hosted the Escondido Charging Wolves in their division's semifinal match up, and the Jags scored early and often in a 28–0 win to advance to the finals to face Fallbrook.
A dominating Jaguar defense set the tone early by stopping Escondido on their first possession, forcing them to punt. Dalton Larrabee caught the punt and nearly returned it to the endzone, pushed out of bounds by Escondido's last defender at the 25-yard line.
A few plays later, quarterback Buddy Hall scrambled to his right and threw to Nico Manriquez along the sideline, who then outran the Wolves' defense for the first score of the game. Kicker Ryan Semon converted the extra point attempt.
Later in the first quarter, the Jaguar defense forced another punt by Escondido and this time, Larrabee could not be stopped as he made several cuts to avoid tacklers before finding the endzone for 50-yard touchdown punt return.
On the last play of the half, Manriquez took a reverse handoff from Larrabee, found the right sideline wide open, and again outran the Wolves' defense as time expired for a 70-yard touchdown run. Semon converted the kick, making the halftime score 22–0 Jaguars.
Forced to the air in the second half, Escondido's quarterback was intercepted by Kamara Johnson on a deep pass over the middle. Several Jaguar plays later, Hall completed a deep pass to receiver Anthony Bobadilla who raced down the left sideline for a touchdown.
Eric Gordon intercepted Escondido two more times and Shaye Miller put a stop to the Wolves' offensive drives.
Next Saturday's championship game between Valley Center and Fallbrook will be played at a neutral site and time to be announced.

Pee Wee
The VC Attacking Jaguars faced the only team that had defeated them this season, the Temecula Bruins, on Saturday at Valley Center High School.
The Temecula Bruins came prepared and ready for a tough game, but the Jaguars held on for a 16–12 win.
The Bruins struck first on the opening drive of the game with a long run from scrimmage.
The Jaguars answered with an impressive drive with a touchdown pass to Doug Watkins. The drive was capped with a two–point conversion kick by Santiago Vasquez.
Andrew Navarro scored in the third quarter with a direct snap from the shotgun to go up by eight points. The Jaguars went for two and were successful.
Temecula fought hard and put six more points on the scoreboard, but could not convert on a fourth and long as Gabe De Paulo intercepted a pass on the four yard line to give the ball back to the Jags with just over two minutes to play.
The Jaguars played a complete game on both offense and defense and came away with a good win over a very good opponent.

After the Junior Jags played their game against the Rancho Peñasquitos Wolverines in Views West Park on Saturday, they went to Malachi Dagnino-Avila's 7th Birthday Party. His Birthday was celebrated at San Pasqual Education Center in Valley Center along with two Charger cheerleaders:

It was an exciting day for the Junior Jags!

Mighty Mites
The Valley Center Mighty Jaguars lost to the visiting Poway Gators 25–0.
The Mighty Jaguar defense played well, with solid plays by Cory Whittier, Jeremy Clay, Eddie Imgrund, Gianni Pinamonti, Oliver Delano, Jack Shaffer and Bryce Littrell.
K.J. Mazzetti, Jake Meyers and Josh Clay led the offense.

Junior Midget
Valley Center's Junior Midget Jaguars faced off against the Fallbrook Warriors at Valley Center High School for a battle of their division's first place title.
After four quarters of tough football, the Jaguars came out on top, 16–6.
On Fallbrook's first possession, the Jaguar defense forced a fumble and recovered the ball near midfield. Behind a physical offensive line, the Jags marched the ball down the field setting up a two-yard touchdown run by Damien DeJesus. Ryan Semon made good on the extra point kick for a two-point conversion in Pop Warner rules.
Fallbrook, however, answered back with touchdown run on a 60-yard quarterback keeper. The kick failed, making the score 8–6 at the end of the first quarter.
Following a great lead block by best friend DeJesus, Dalton Larrabee broke free down the left sideline and outran Fallbrook's defense for a 65-yard touchdown run. Semon converted the kick making the score 16–6.
The Jaguar defense stopped the remaining Warrior drives with Matt Doyle intercepting a desperate last-minute pass attempt to preserve the win.
This Saturday, the 7–0 Junior Midget Jaguars play their last league game against Carlsbad at a location to be announced before entering playoffs.

Flag Football
The Junior Jaguars had a tough loss against Temecula Golden Cubs, falling 18–0.
The Golden Cubs had speed and played hard, but the Junior Jaguars never gave up.
Junior Midgets
The Junior Midget Jaguars played their first road game of the year on Saturday at Kit Carson Park against the Escondido Charging Wolves, coming out on top with a 22–6 victory.
The Jags’ stifling defense did not allow an Escondido score until the last play of the game. Brody Barnhill led the defense with six tackles and Eric Gordon recovered a fumble. After struggling on their first series, the offense got it going behind the blocking of offensive linemen Stephen Torres, Andrew Chestnut, Jared Gilster and Ryan Brunton.
The line held back Escondido's defense long enough for Buddy Hall to complete a short pass to Matt Doyle who then scampered 40 yards for a touchdown. Anthony Bobadilla caught another pass for a touchdown and Dalton Larrabee ran in a touchdown.
After the game, both teams and the cheerleaders gathered at the middle of the field to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of recently deceased Escondido Coach Pennagrew.
Mighty Mites
The Mighty Jaguars fell to the San Marcos Crusaders, 24–12.
The Jags fought hard in the second half to score two touchdowns.
The offense was led by Oliver Delano who had a nine-yard touchdown reception from K.J. Mazzetti. Gianni Pinamonti had a ten-yard run for a touchdown.
The Jags had stellar blocking from Cory Whittier, Josh Clay and Sid Weddington who also had a five-yard reception.
Jeremy Clay, Jake Meyers, Adam Patstone and Eddie Imgrund, who had a monster hit in the fourth quarter, anchored the Mighty Jag defense. Oliver Delano made an interception resulting in a 30-yard return.
