PHOTOS: Valley Center varsity girls golf

The Valley Center varsity girls golf team has had a good season so far, winning four matches, including today's win over Orange Glen by forfeit.

The Lady Jaguars have been fueled by an excited group of golfers who have been getting better with each match, according to head coach Shandrea Degen.

"We've had our ups and downs, but overall, it's been much better than last season," Coach Degen says of the improvement from last year's winless season. "We've won on scores and we've won on forfeits, but no matter how we win, the girls are happy about that."

The Lady Jags have a mix of players from different backgrounds, including softball players Kiana and Leilani Diefenbach, basketball player Melinda Olson, and returning golfers Michelle Kellogg, Mia Cassel and Yulissa Ortiz.

"Kiana and Leilani are my big hitters coming from softball," Coach Degen says. "And Melinda is an athlete who knows how to work and what it means to really practice. And Mia, Yulissa and Michelle have been so consistent. They show up every practice, every match and they're excited to be out here. We have a really great group of girls this season."

Here are a few photos of the Lady Jaguars in action in what turned out to be a practice round against Orange Glen on Tuesday.
